Xbox Live Gamertag 'Hacking' Scam
Posted: 18/12/2008 4:49PM AEDT - Updated: 18/12/2008 8:35PM AEDT

This is a massive heads up to all gamers who own a 360.

I don't know how long this has been going on for, but I'm letting you guys know now.

I just received a message from a friend on XBL stating:

QUOTE:

DONT go on any sites like points4free.tk OR anything like that they r all made by people that hack when u sign into ur hotmail they recieve ur details then get ur XBL details then take ur account. My account (removed for obvious reasons) just got hacked so delete it

The site is supposed to give you free Microsoft Points, although it doesnt state that on the site, except for the URL giving you a hint. Yes, it's too good to be true.

I decided to pay this site a visit. My instant reaction was OMFG.

They have literally copied the layout of the genuine XBox.com login page. There are some differences between the two pages. It basically asks for your email address & password, like the genuine login page would.

However, my guess is, the email address & password are stored in a database, where the undesirable fuckers come along, check the information stored & try the email address & passwords, to see if they work. They enter the email & password into the genuine xbox.com login page & if successful, they get your gamertag once they've signed in.

They then change your gamertag's location, name, bio & motto, advertising points4free.tk.

They then change your password to something else, disabling you from your own email address & gamertag.

They then would go to their console & recover the gamertag, using the email & the new password.

Finally, they sit back & go "wham bam thank you mam", kiss your gamertag & paid subscription goodbye.

Not only do you lose you gamertag & paid subscription... you could suffer the consequences of also:

  • Losing your Microsoft Points you've paid for
  • Your gamerscore that you worked hard for
  • Personal contact information (full name, address, suburb, postcode, phone number) is available to them
  • Your credit card can be used to rack up massive bills, from purchases like more Microsoft Points, on the console or xbox.com (not 100% sure if your CC details carry over)
  • Your DLC that you paid for can be downloaded onto their console (for free), via the download history feature on the console or xbox.com

This is quite clearly a massive fucking security breach.

DON'T USE THIS SITE OR ANY OTHERS LIKE THIS ONE.

If it's to good to be true...

A change is coming...

I'm currently in the process of making some changes to my current website.

The new look can't be seen yet, but when it does go live, you will not only see that the look of the site has changed dramatically, but I'll also post another blog entry.

Stay tuned!

Gaming: NXE - New Xbox Experience
Posted: 20/11/2008 9:07PM AEDT - Updated: 21/11/2008 12:50AM AEDT

The NXE has been released. I'm not going to ramble off what new features there are, cause there's to many & I couldn't be bothered anyway. Some further info can be read about it on the 'gaming' page.

However, there's one new feature, a feature that is being touted as being a rip off from the Nintendo Wii... avatars.

Below is my avatar. The good thing about the avatar in a web designer/developer's view, is that no new code needs to be added to make the avatar display new changes.
